Organize Your Summer in 3 Easy Steps
How to lay it all out so that you have time for everything (and nothing at all)!
Have you ever been so excited for summer to start? Are you thinking that you are finally going to have some TIME to get things done!!! If you are anything like me, your head is filled with grandiose plans to reorganize cabinets, restructure meal plans, purge unwanted items, take on small projects around the house and, of course, rest and play.
But then...
It seems that glorious summer somehow slips through your fingers. The days fly by and you end up at the beginning of the school year, yet again, with no progress made. Closets are still full, projects are still undone, and you really don't even remember what you were thinking about 2 months ago when the school year ended.
This was ME... for the longest time. I would get a few things done, but always felt scattered. I would wake up asking myself what to do today? I'd move from thing to thing here and there, and go weeks without doing any of it. Until a couple of years ago while listening to one of my favorite authors, Angela Watson, I discovered a WHOLE NEW SYSTEM for conquering summer ...and I haven't looked back since.
Here's how I do it from start to finish so you can include everything you want to get done and still have time to rest and relax with those you love.
Step 1: Brain Dump: Write everything down that you want to get done by the end of summer in these areas:
Home:
Work:
Family:
Self Care:
(I just bullet them out, but get them ALLLL down. It's okay if this takes a couple of days.) I have included a link to my template. Just copy and edit in Google Drive on your desktop device!
Step 2: Big Ideas: Look at your planner and give yourself a goal for each week. I write it in the Sunday section. It could be appointments, closet clean out, meal plan, or any variety of home projects. Make sure to include vacation and dates with friends and your spouse. If you have to schedule in time for yourself. DO IT!
Make sure to group like items together to make the most of your time. (For example, I might include all appointments in one week or pair cleaning out closets with a yard sale.)
Included are month-at-a-glance calendars for your summer work. Just copy and edit in Google Drive. (make sure to do this on your desktop device)
Step 3: Schedule Out Your Week: As you approach each week, schedule when you are going to do each task, day and time. For example, if you have home projects as your big idea, Monday could be purchasing items, Tuesday could be deconstruction, and Wednesday could be organizing and reassembling the finished product.
Feel free to copy and edit these week-at-a-glance calendars into your Google Drive as you need them. (you do need to be on a desktop device for it to work)
That's it! It really helps me to stay focused on what I want to do over the course of the summer. I hope it helps you too! Cheers to a productive, memorable summer, friends!
